The Ikitsuki Island Museum Shima no Yakata is dedicated mainly to the whaling industry in the area during the Edo Period (1603-1868) but also contains exhibits from the "Hidden Christian" culture practiced in the region as well as local farming and traditional festival dances. There is also a quirky section of stuffed fish, produced by the islanders since 1989. There are presently about 400 fish from 250 different species on display, attached to the ceiling by wires in a special room. Coastal whaling in certain defined areas ( Shimonoseki , Wakayama and Taiji in present day Wakayama Prefecture, for example) was practiced throughout the Edo Period in Japan (certainly not everywhere on Japan's long coastline) and the museum's main emphasis is on the Masutomi group of whalers, who hunted whales in Nagasaki's coastal waters for their meat and oil, which was used for bug control on the area's rice fields.

Ceramics in each region of Kyushu, especially those of the Hizen Region (Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures), have developed with their own original styles and traditions. The museum was founded in November 1980 with the goal of contributing to the preservation of this cultural inheritance and the advancement of ceramic art culture. It is for this reason that we gather, protect and exhibit historically, artistically and industrially important items, as well as hold activities for survey research and educational promotion. As a facility specializing in Kyushu ceramics, we aim to be the comprehensive base for all things related to ceramic culture, and we put much effort into building international exchange. In our exhibits, along with making the history of ceramics in Kyushu accessible and easy to understand, we also display Kyushu ceramics, particularly those of the Hizen Region - Karatsu ware, Arita ware and Nabeshima ware, as well as the work of modern ceramicists. The Mr. and Mrs. Shibata Collection, which has systematically gathered Arita ware from throughout the Edo Period, and the Kanbara Collection, which brings together Arita ware that was exported to Europe during the Edo Period, are particularly popular with visitors.

Kyushu has an abundance of nature and some pretty great camping areas and if you are anything like me, the beautiful weather in May will have you itching to get out into the countryside for the weekend. This weekend we drove down to Isanoura in Sakai cho, Nagasaki prefecture.

The Nagasaki Peace Park is a tranquil space that commemorates the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, which destroyed a significant portion of the city and killed ten thousands of inhabitants. The complex is comprised of two parks and a memorial museum. In the center of the complex is the Hypocenter Park with a simple, black monolith that marks the explosion's epicenter. Not far from it stands a damaged pillar of the former Urakami Cathedral which was destroyed in the blast. Furthermore, there is an area that allows visitors to take a look at a layer of soil below the park's surface where broken roof tiles, bricks and pieces of glass remain from the explosion.

The splendor of azalea in this park is the most gorgeous in Japan for its width and beauty. It is a pity it is accessible only by car. The period of azalea (from the middle of April to the beginning of May) is recommended.

Appearance that clear water and wave worth reputation of "beach that is the most beautiful in Gulf of Omura" are quiet is pride! Trees of phoenix and hemp palm bring on the mood that is colonial & ethnic. A youth enjoying canoe and jet ski, surfing is seen in offing.

It is in Osaki nature park and is fully equipped with substantial camping facilities and can play in facility in leisure when there is many including "beach" and "kujaku garden" in Osaki nature park "Osaki, Kawatana hot spring shiosaino hot water". In comfortable environment, please spend nature and friendly feeling, wonderful time with friend and family with all one's might.
