***See attachment for more details*** 1. MIKASA PARK (-=.31i:01il) This park is only ten minutes away from the main gate of Yokosuka base. There is the Mikasa flag ship museum and a series of manmade streams and waterfalls that run through the park. 2. MONKEY ISLAND [SARUSHIMA (ffi?)] Monkey Island has been reopened by the city of Yokosuka as wildlife preserve. Ferries leave Mikasa Park regularly from 0830. The last ferry returns at 1700. There are hiking trails and picnic areas as well as great vistas of Tokyo Bay and Yokosuka. No trash is to be left on the island. Ferryboat is ¥1200 for adults and ¥600 for children. 3. UMIKAZE PARK (? J:r.;o?-lf01il) This park is located not too far from the Yokosuka base, along side Yokosuka Kaigan-dori Ave., which is a wide-open road. They have many activities for children and adults to relax and have fun. There is a playground with a wooden pirate ship, which you can run, jump, and slide on. In addition to enjoying the scenery of Tokyo Bay, you can fish and look at a shell fountain. 4. KANNONZAKI PARK (ffl-'/if?0?) Kannonzaki Light House was built in 1869 but its duties have been taken over by UragaTraffic Control Center also located in the park. This radar-studded concrete tower, visible from base, guides the 1,000 ships traveling past Kannonzaki every day. Many hiking paths nestled in the scenic hills, ships steaming past in Tokyo bay and a nature museum dedicated to those who make their living from the sea are a few of the many interesting points located within the area. 5. KURIHAMA FLOWER WORLD/ADVENTURE LAND (?\!IU:!i,?0)00) The large park will be covered with poppies in May and cosmos in September. There is Adventure Land for children and an herb garden for those who have a green thumb or enjoy cooking. 6. YOKOSUKA CHILDREN'S BICYCLE PARK (f.lt.1'¥:?iffi01il) This park is set up to resemble city streets where children can ride bicycles with no cars allowed and has city streets with working traffic signals, street signs, and even a flashing train crossing. It is a great place for children to ride bicycles without fear of automobiles and gives them a chance to practice their riding skills. All riders must ride a bike provided by the park, so don't plan on bringing your own bicycle. The park maintains a fleet of bicycles of all sizes from very small 12 inch wheel bikes with training wheels to adult sized bicycles. Additionally there are three wheeled pedal scooters children can ride if they prefer something more car like. The pace of the park is slow and will appeal to elementary aged school children and younger. There are plenty of shady areas for parents to sit and read while the children play. Helmets are not provided by the park, so please bring your own (helmets are not required by the park and most Japanese children do not wear them, but they are highly recommended). Train travel is the best way to get to the park as there is no parking at the park and parking in this area is very limited. Admission is free, open 0930-1630 closed on Mondays. You must wear tennis shoes, no crocs, sandals or flip-flops are allowed. 7. ABURATSUBO MARINE PARK (nil?"' A beautiful landscaped park, Aburatsubo is perched above the ocean on a rocky tip at the foot of Miura Peninsula. Its main attraction is the aquarium situated off to the left as one enters the park. In the aquarium are fish of every shape and form including a giant eel, a fish mathematician, tropical observation platform, souvenir shops, and a game center. The park is open daily from 0900-1700 and is closed the last three (3) days of the year. Adults ¥1700, Junior High ¥1300, children (6-11 yrs) ¥850, and children (4-5 yrs) are ¥450. GASHIMA ISLAND (?-7 .%-01i!) Jogashima Island is a tiny island off the tip of the Miura Peninsula. A toll bridge runs from the mainland to the island. A small fishing village and sandy beaches are on the western end and a lovely park is on the eastern end. 9. STRAWBERRY PICKING (it:?#t?MYc;,1' =f" ::i'liJ) The Tsukuihama sightseeing plantation is located at the foot of Takeyama (altitude of 202m). This area is also famous for its azalea, which can be viewed while walking from Tsukuihama station to the plantation. Since the Miura Peninsula climate is warmer than in any other areas in the Kanto Region, one can enjoy a variety of food crops throughout the year - strawberry picking and sweet potato digging in spring, and mandarin orange picking in autumn. 10. ENOSHIMA ISLAND (rI/ .%) Enoshima Island is a picturesque little island. It has an assortment of Souvenir shops and restaurants. On the top part of the island, which is reached by an outdoor escalator, there is a complex of 3 major buildings comprising Enoshima Jinja (Shrine). There is also a Tropical Garden and an observation tower affording a panoramic view of the coastline and Mt. Fuji. 11.
