For the industry, the consequences are already visible in how phones are marketed, toward cameras and foldable form factors and now on-device AI, because the generic performance pitch no longer moves anyone. For consumers, the practical takeaway is unglamorous: the best money in the smartphone market is increasingly spent on the phone you already own, whether a battery service, a repair, or simply another year of updates. The upgrade math did not get harder. It just stopped working for anyone who runs it honestly.
