Lake Nodake

Nodake Lake is a man-made lake that Mr. Gidayu Fukazawa, who made a fortune in whaling, commissioned in 1661. Its circumference is three kilometers. The original purpose for its creation was so Omura could have a stable source of water if a drought came. The lake can hold 1.2 million tons of water. It is now part of the Tara Mountain Nagasaki Prefecture Park, where people enjoy camping, cycling, pedal boating, and outdoor sports. There is a children’s play area, as well as a small stream that people of all ages can cool off in during the summer. The bridge connecting the divided park makes for a nice view. There is also an indoor activity center that can be rented and the bungalow area has space for barbequing.
