Know what the record can tell you.

GovInfo supplies official publications from the legislative, executive and judicial branches. Its collections differ in coverage and update frequency. Our local index is a bounded subset, with dates and extraction availability shown per record.

Dates have different meanings.

Publication, source modification and ingestion dates are distinct. An effective date is shown only when explicitly documented. Historical CFR text may not reflect current regulations.

Publication is not legislative status.

Bill texts are not evidence of enactment. Federal Register publications include proposed rules, notices and final rules. Budget authority, obligations, outlays and award values are different measures.

AI and source text stay separate.

The evidence desk displays original excerpts. The chatbot can search and retrieve official publications with bounded read-only tools. Every interpretation requires exact source quotations and an automated evidence review. These checks cannot guarantee factual or legal correctness. Retrieved documents cannot issue instructions to the research system.
